Responsible CO2 Solution. Reliable CO2 Partner.

Around the world, energy producers, refiners, and industries are looking for ways to reduce emissions and address climate change—and carbon sequestration is one of the most promising solutions. Denbury is deeply invested in Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (“CCUS”), with more than 20 years of experience in carbon injection, recycling, monitoring and management through our Enhanced Oil Recovery (“EOR”) operations. Today, Denbury is actively working to develop a portfolio of permanent carbon sequestration sites within close proximity to our established CO₂ pipeline infrastructure. We are prepared to partner with clients to provide safe, permanent underground storage of carbon dioxide emissions through sequestration. Denbury’s proven experience in CO2 management, extensive CO2 pipeline structure, and proactive sequestration strategy create a strong platform for success in this emerging market.

WHAT IS CARBON SEQUESTRATION?

Carbon Sequestration is the process of capturing and storing industrial CO2 in a secure underground location to prevent its release into the atmosphere. The goal of carbon sequestration is to cut global emissions, in order to reduce climate change.

An Experienced Carbon Solutions Provider

Denbury’s 22 years of experience transporting, injecting and monitoring CO2 underground will provide not only customers, but the entire CCUS industry, assurance that injected CO2 will remain securely and permanently stored. As an experienced carbon solutions provider, Denbury has executed hundreds of successful Class II well projects. Class VI wells, which are used for carbon injection and long-term storage through sequestration, are not significantly different from Class II wells. Denbury’s experience in Class II wells is a competitive advantage that will shorten our go-to-market timeframe for Class VI well operations. Denbury also has the technical capabilities to ensure safe long-term carbon sequestration, including real-time monitoring, CO2 plume modeling, and seismic acquisition and processing technologies.

Denbury’s Carbon Sequestration Portfolio

Denbury is in the process of securing carbon sequestration sites, which will be used to store captured carbon in underground reservoirs. To date, Denbury has secured over 2 billion metric tons of cumulative CO2 sequestration capacity in sites in Alabama, Louisiana, Texas and Wyoming with plans for our first site to be ready for sequestration as early as late 2025. By taking a proactive stance on sequestration, Denbury is poised to be one of the first companies functionally operating in sequestration activities as Class VI permits are approved. Our carbon sequestration services will provide increased reliability for emitters, as well as lower costs due to shorter transport distances via our CO2 pipeline network.
