Carbon Solutions for a Sustainable Future
Denbury is leading the industry in decarbonizing our world safely and economically. Our Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (“CCUS”) solutions make it possible to provide affordable, reliable energy while reducing carbon emissions. With more than 20 years of experience transporting, injecting and monitoring carbon dioxide (“CO2”), and the largest CO2 pipeline network in the U.S., Denbury is a premier carbon solutions company.
Denbury established Denbury Carbon Solutions, LLC in 2021, to advance the company’s leadership in the high-growth CCUS industry. We have the network, assets and expertise to provide best-in-class CCUS solutions, including Enhanced Oil Recovery (“EOR”), carbon sequestration, and other uses. Denbury brings a flexible approach to CCUS, and partners with its customers to provide tailored solutions.

What is CCUS?
CCUS is the process of capturing industrial-sourced CO2 before it is released into the atmosphere, and either storing it permanently, or using it to create valuable products or services. Carbon sequestration and EOR are both CCUS solutions. Learn more about both options, as well as other CCUS uses, using the links below.

Enhanced Oil Recovery
By injecting CO2 into existing wells, Denbury can increase oil recovery by 10% to 20% of the original oil in place—with the added benefit of storing captured CO2 below the ground, preventing its release into the atmosphere. Companies that emit CO2 can lower their carbon footprint by partnering with Denbury to capture and store emissions in EOR operations. EOR is essentially the only functioning CCUS project of scale in the U.S. today.

Carbon Sequestration
Carbon sequestration is a process by which CO2 is permanently stored underground through Class VI injection wells. Denbury is currently working to build a carbon sequestration portfolio, and is poised to provide sequestration pending EPA permitting for Class VI wells. Denbury has secured cumulative potential CO2 sequestration capacity of more than 2 billion metric tons, with multiple sites currently in the Class VI permitting process. More acquisitions are planned in the near future.

Partnership Projects
Beyond EOR and carbon sequestration, Denbury also offers other CCUS solutions to its partners. For example, captured CO2 may be sold for use in the production of electrofuels, or transported via pipeline for secure containment.
